The following photographs were taken during my employment with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. The Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is home to the Mnicoujou, Itazipco, Sihasapa, and Oohenumpa bands of the Lakota, or Great Sioux Nation. Occupying north-central South Dakota, the reservation is similar in size to my home state of CT, consisting of over 2 million acres of rolling prairies, river valleys, and some woodlands. Lake Oahe and the Missouri River border the eastern boundary of the reservation.
