In the spring of 2004 I took a temporary job in South Dakota with a private ranch, where I worked as a wild turkey hunting guide (Merriam’s wild turkey, spring hunting season), near the Black Hills. I also assisted with general ranch maintenance activities that involved caring for the animal residents, and handy tasks throughout the property (digging fence post holes, cement work, etc.). I ventured to Nebraska for the summer months before returning home to Connecticut for seasonal state and tribal employment opportunities.
