| During the winter/spring of 2004/2005 I obtained another seasonal Wildlife Resource Assistant position with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CT DEP), and was stationed in the northwest part of the state. Winter activities primarily involved management tasks pertaining to the state’s black bear population, which included scouting and location of bear dens, den visits, and nuisance bear trapping. Necropsies (of bobcat, coyote, fisher, and river otter) and pelt tagging were routine activities as well during 2004/2005. I also had the opportunity to assist with the Eastern cottontail and New England cottontail trapping project, and attended tracking workshops where I picked up some good pointers with regard to identifying various wildlife tracks found throughout the northeast. If you would like to read an article in the May/June 2005 issue of Connecticut Wildlife Magazine, please visit Black Bear Article where you can also find another picture of me with two yearling bear cubs. I was also involved with a Connecticut chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and assisted with their annual banquet and auction.
