| Upon completion of high school I attended college at the University of Connecticut (UConn) in Storrs. I majored in Animal Science under the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in spring of 1999. The following fall I enrolled at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) in Amherst. There I majored in Fisheries & Wildlife Conservation, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in spring of 2002. College played a major role with enhancing my goals and persuading my determination to achieve them.
Throughout college I have been immensely involved with the Native American community. While partaking in numerous programs and activities cultivated for Native American students, I learned a great deal about the diversity of Native cultures and issues facing Native communities as a whole. The struggles of the northeast Indian Nations were predominantly emphasized. “We Are Not Vanishing. We Are Not Conquered. We Are As Strong As Ever” (United American Indians of New England). I had much respect for my Native advisors and teachers who guided me along the way. Much of my college life was dedicated to my involvement with the Native community where upon I was blessed with many awards of appreciation for my commitment. Other dedicated Native American students and myself worked hard for these programs, and in the end we enjoyed many outings to powwows across the country, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Canada. |
